HARDWARE RENAISSANCE
HAND-FORGED IRON AND SOLID BRONZE HARDWARE
1. Hand-forged iron hardware comes with a limited life-time guarantee of Hardware Renaissance products against failure due to faulty workmanship.
2. Cast Bronze Hardware carries a three-year limited warranty from the date of delivery.
Both warranties are strictly conditioned upon the following:
- All invoices for the products, including shipping, have been paid in full.
- Excluded from this guarantee are locking components made by others, rust on hand-forged products, changes to patinas, neglect or abuse.
3. Valid claims under the warranty must be made in writing to Hardware Renaissance, 3205-A Mercantile
Court, Santa Fe, NM 87507, or faxed to (505) 820-2941, describing the product failure within 30 days of product malfunction. Hardware Renaissance may require photos of damaged product for its evaluation.
Should Hardware Renaissance determine that the claim is valid under the warranty provisions, Hardware Renaissance shall, at its own discretion, repair or replace the products at its expense.
Owner shall ship the faulty product at owner’s expense to Hardware Renaissance for repair or replacement. Hardware Renaissance shall ship the repaired or replaced piece back to the owner at Hardware Renaissance’s expense.
4. The warranty may be voided and not cover damage to Hardware Renaissance’s products, the door(s) or components by others as a result of improper installation. This includes an installation using improper components such as mortise locks, tubular latches, cylinders or spindles.
5. No labor charges or back charges by the contractor/installer can be claimed for faulty hardware without first giving written notice to Hardware Renaissance describing in detail the problems experienced, and first allowing Hardware Renaissance to correct such problems.
Minor modifications to the hardware (to spindles and tailpieces, etc.) for a proper installation are considered to be normal activities required of the installer, and are not the responsibility of Hardware Renaissance.
Charges for improperly installed hardware or hardware installed with improper components as described above, or labor charges for the proper reinstallation of hardware are not the responsibility of Hardware Renaissance. In the event Hardware Renaissance provides on-site assistance to reinstall the products correctly, such costs may be charged to the customer or dealer. Labor charges for repair or replacement of doors due to improper installation are not the responsibility of Hardware Renaissance.
MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS - HAND FORGED IRON
So long as you take good care of the hardware, it will take care of you and so will we. The hardware has a life-time warranty excluding rust or locking components made by others. If you have a special patina, it too can change over time. We cannot guarantee patinas as the natural aging process is a part of its beauty.
As you know from the Dealer who sold it to you, our hardware is completely hand-made by master blacksmiths, so no two are exactly alike. Please take a moment to read these few maintenance instructions to get decades of solid performance.
As hand-forged iron, this is the authentic craft, made with centuries-old blacksmithing traditions. The metal is high carbon steel which, of course, is ferrous metal. There has been no compromise to its historical authenticity by adding any paints or powder coating to prevent rust. As such, you will need to give it some occasional maintenance as follows:
1. If you live in a high humidity environment, the hardware will develop rust over time. This is due to the natural wax finish wearing away with either the oils from your hands or other climatic affects. The wax prevents oxygen from getting to the iron preventing rust or “oxidation.” When you see some rust developing, as soon as possible, use a 3m PAD (NOT STEEL WOOL!) and rub it off completely. The sooner you do it, the easier the job. Don’t worry; you won’t be able to take the black off.
2. After getting the rust off, lightly scour the entire piece to remove excess surface dirt and dust. Finish with a light dusting of the hardware with a clean soft rag.
3. Apply a liberal application of Brie Wax (the best), Johnson’s Paste Wax, Butcher’s Wax, Tree Wax or even Turtle Wax (used for automobiles). Rub in thoroughly and allow it to dry per the wax manufacturer’s directions. Buff out with a clean soft rag. The harder you buff, the harder the wax becomes. If you are in a coastal environment, repeat this process.
4. All working parts have a Teflon bushing in between so there is little chance that anything can freeze up. If your hardware is in a second home or doesn’t get much use, you may have to work it a bit if it hasn’t been used in some time.
Thank you for your purchase and we wish you many years of service and enjoyment!
MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS – SOLID BRONZE HARDWARE
The cast bronze hardware made by Hardware Renaissance uses the highest grade of silicon bronze available. Our patinas are all hand applied and employ various minerals and chemicals along with a high heat from propane torch. In this way, the patina coloring is made a part of the metal.
Like any bronze, the patinas will age over time which is part of the beauty of bronze and the reason for its popularity. The natural oils from your hands can diminish or even remove patina from the lever or know, while the rest of the patina such as on the escutcheon may darken. Again, this is a natural aging process and will only add to it natural appeal.
Maintenance consists of an occasional cleaning of the hardware and a rewaxing. For cleaning, use a clean damp cotton rag to wipe off excess dust and oils. DO NOT use a cleaning solvent as that could damage the patina. After cleaning, rewax with a household past wax such as Johnson’s Brie Wax, Butcher’s Wax or Tree Wax. All of these are available at grocery or hardware stores. Be sure to follow the wax manufacturer’s instructions. Buff out the wax thoroughly—the more you buff, the harder the wax becomes and hence more sheen.
For any questions, please call Hardware Renaissance at (505) 983-2644.
Thank you for your purchase and we wish you many years of service and enjoyment! Our solid bronze hardware comes with a three-year warranty. This
does not cover patinas as they will age over time with exposure
to the elements.
